MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Greg Lebsack of ASP Global Services
By Steve Stallman

This issue’s Member Spotlight features Greg Lebsack, CEO of ASP Global Services in Chatsworth, CA and chair of the TCOSC Valley Chapter.

There are many mysteries in life, such as where is my missing sock or what is the meaning of life itself. One company has found a way to help. Although you will have to look elsewhere for the meaning of life, they can help you find and track almost everything else. That company is called ASP Global Services and they have the answers to what many companies desire. Total visibility across a wide platform of the supply chain, including Order Management, Inventory Management, Warehouse Management and EDI.

ASP Global Services now offers an innovative method of addressing problems many companies face every day. Many major companies now use their cost effective services. Greg Lebsack shared how the company works and why they have been so successful.

What is the problem you solve for businesses?
Tracking and visibility through the global supply chain. Often there is a big black hole in the process. Tracking allows for complete accountability. Many companies use a wide variety of separate systems, and many include gaps or blind spots. Our offering integrates all their systems into a single view. Also, many companies only track the major components of their business. We help them track everything, which saves them time and money.

So what makes you stand out from the competition?
This is where we really shine, as our offering is unique in many ways. We offer an on demand (SaaS) model. It has high functionality and rapid global deployment at a very low cost of entry. The high functionality includes many components: Order Management; Inventory Management, Warehouse Management and EDI. I mentioned before that visibility is key, and through our system you can see the top line in a single view. No one offers anything like this. Our service allows companies to tie in all their systems, not in any mandatory way–it is customized to fit the customer’s specific requirements. Our platform allows for easy adaptability and can be quickly deployed. The range is typically two weeks to two months, with most installations being delivered with two weeks.

What type of customers do you have?
3 PL (third party logistics) providers and enterprise, global 2000 customers, including big retailers, automotive, electronics and aerospace. Examples are Intel, Apple, IBM, Toshiba, Adidas, Lockheed Martin and Target Stores.

Do you have strategic relationships?
We have a number of strategic partners, and they are very important to our company. A great example is CEVA, a global leader in logistics services. We allow CEVA to offer advanced logistics services to their varied clients by partnering with us. We also have technology strategic partners, including Boomi, and SAP Business Objects, which play a key role as we expand our technology platform.

What has been your biggest challenge?
We created a package of services that is completely customized to the unique needs of each customer. Since no one else does this, it is challenging to find great people. We will not compromise on talent, so as we grow it is difficult to find the right people.

What has been your greatest success?
From the start our offering was well received because it filled a real need. However, we realized that to grow our business it was necessary to upgrade our system. We did this from the bottom up, starting with a new foundation for a robust platform. Then we reengineered the rest of our offerings. This was not easy, but the end result was worth it. We are now poised for seamless growth.

Can you give an example of a customer's success?
This is a rewarding business and we are able to deal with many high profile companies. For most companies, there are two sides of the business. We’ve set up a national program for all of Target Stores’ non-retail items. This is often an overlooked aspect of retailers, and includes a wide range of products that keep the stores running smoothly–from signage to standard supplies. We also set up a system for Nike to track all their samples. In the past, these companies had limited visibility. Now it is complete.

What is your geographic coverage?
We’re in 22 countries and back it with 24/7 in house support. Here is another way we are unique: we don’t farm this out. Our support is by our own trained and dedicated employees. Their primary purpose is to make sure the system we created for them will work smoothly–whenever they need it–complete support. Our goal is total visibility and functionality in their supply chain all the time.

How do companies learn about your services?
We have been very fortunate. Our strategic relationships have really helped us grow. We also have good word-of-mouth from people who know us and our satisfied customers.

How have sales been?
12 straight quarters of growth and profitability. We are certainly on the right track.

And your future plans?
We’ve been expanding our capabilities and our systems are in great shape, so we are now in a position to grow rapidly. We are considering taking on outside strategic investors to speed our growth.

What makes ASP Global Services successful?
A combination of rapidly customized offering through an economical SaaS model. It is hard to pass up once a customer hears about us.

Have you benefited from being a TC member?
I enjoy the network of technology professionals. It keeps me informed and allows access to some of the technology challenges I’ve had growing the business.
